Images painted during Blackshaw’s second pregnancy go on view in Chantal Joffe: Personal Feeling is the Main Thing, an exhibition which displays recent work by Joffe alongside that by Paula Modersohn-Becker at The Lowry, Salford (until October 2018). The works are a continuation and expansion of conversations Joffe and Blackshaw have been having over some years on female agency, maternity, and the problematics of the nude in modern European art. Blackshaw’s essay ‘Mother Figure’ is published through Elephant.
Publication of research in TASCHEN’s expansive XXL-format book, which includes over 200 paintings and 150 drawings and watercolours, many of them newly photographed. The Catalogue Raisonné is the first to appear since Jane Kallir’s Egon Schiele: The Complete Works of 1990. It addresses both the significant scholarly activity on the artist in the past 30 years and the subject of provenance, one of the most vital areas of new research on Viennese Modernism.
Testing Ground: Master Class invites leading international artists to share their expertise with a small group of emerging UK-based artists over a week-long intensive at Zabludowicz Collection, London. Each artist gives a public lecture as part of the programme; Joffe’s took the form of an ‘in conversation’ with Blackshaw. The project is part of Testing Ground for Art and Education, an annual season focussed on opportunities for the creative and professional development of emerging artists and curators.
